Softbox Lighting - What is it?
Softbox lighting diffuses the light, creating a soft and even light. Using softbox lighting reduces problems with shadows.
PRO TIP: Placing the softbox closer to the subject or model being photographed or videoed simulates natural daylight – for the best results.
What's the Difference Between Softbox Lighting & Umbrella Lighting?
The difference is that umbrella lighting creates a wider, diffused light (similar to being outside). Umbrella lighting is more difficult to control. In contrast, a softbox light creates a more controlled and direct light, replicating natural sunlight in a room.
Softbox Lighting - Rectangular or Octagonal?
Softbox lights come in different shapes: rectangular or octagonal. Both shapes work the same, but a rectangular softbox light mimics natural window light better. It’s also easier to place two of them side by side for a “big-window” effect.
An octagonal softbox light creates more "natural" eye highlights. And portable octagonal softboxes are a little easier to fold.
